In their final moments, the genuine love and loyalty of their friendship is displayed through their conversation. Unknowingly, Elijah would soon be taken from Elisha to be with God. “But Elisha said, ‘As surely as the LORD lives as as you live, I will not leave you.’” 2 Kings 2:2 ![]() Miracles performed by Elisha can be found in these passages: Miracles performed by Elijah can be found in these passages: “One of the themes of Elisha’s ministry was that of the kindness and compassion of God,” Moody Bible Commentary explains, “Elisha had directed the people again and again to the covenants of the Lord.” Saving faith realizes our purpose is to bring glory to God. “Elisha’s call gives us the idiom ‘take up the mantle,’” Eli Evans explains on, “which means to pass an office from mentor to student.” True saving faith allows us to know God beyond head knowledge, by connecting with Him in our heart …our souls …and allowing Him to take precedence over all else in our lives. “And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.’ Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:17 NIVĮlisha means, “My God is salvation.” This prophet’s ministry called the people back to a saving faith, in which knowledge of God allows us to see through a different perspective. “Answer me, LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.” 1 Kings 18:37 The prophecies and miracles of Elijah and Elisha were proof to them of the One True God. “Their influence led to an awakening among some of the Israelites during a dismal stage of Israel’s history,” the staff at explains, “Through the corrupt reigns of Ahab and Ahaziah, God trusted in Elijah and Elisha to lead the charge for righteousness.” God’s people were surrounded by idol worship of other gods. “God inspired 1 and 2 Kings to retell the history of his people and remind them of his promises, assure them that his promises had not failed,” David Mathis explains on, “and declare that his word remained as sure as ever.” Who Were Elijah and Elisha in the Bible?Įlijah and Elisha were prophets, recorded in the Old Testament in the books of 1 and 2 Kings. As we take a peak into the lives of two great prophets, let it inspire us to pray for the purpose God has placed in our lives for His Kingdom. God is the God of miracles, and He has plans for each of us which we cannot even imagine. Through great faith, love, and obedience, their lives brought great glory to God in heaven. These two men were chosen by God to call His people to revival. As Elijah did for Elisha, if we are to pass on a spiritual legacy we must depend on God to guide us as we take another person from development to their God given destiny.The Bible is teeming with miracles and prophecies, and we can read about events like these in the lives of Elijah and Elisha in 1 and 2 Kings. ![]() But one of the key aspects of leaving a legacy is the ability to disciple and empower someone else so they can correctly inherit the spiritual mantle of leadership. What are you willing to have less of so that you can have more of God? Elisha had to leave a business behind to follow in the footsteps of Elijah. If you want to get more of God, you need to be detached from other things that are holding you back from the supernatural. Secondly, we must be devoted, just like Elisha, to seeing things from a spiritual perspective. It starts with a desire similar to Elisha’s, who wanted twice as much God as Elijah possessed so that he could do more for God. Tony gives us a strategic way to pass faith on to those who follow us. It is within this context that we find Elijah transferring the power of God to Elisha.
